Electrical connectors called D-Sub Connectors feature two or more parallel rows of pins or sockets encased in a metal shield in the shape of a D. This shield protects against certain electromagnetic interference, offers mechanical support, and guarantees that the connectors are oriented correctly. There are also some D-Subminiature connectors that have mixed contacts available.

Two or more parallel rows of contacts are arranged in a D-shape around which the connection is housed. In addition to offering mechanical support and guaranteeing proper alignment, the shell may also serve as an EMI shield.
