The DDR3L RAM consumes lesser voltage compared to the DDR3. This reduces heating and enables faster operation. Also the lower the operating voltage, (1.35v, 1.25v) the faster the memory can theoretically operate because the transition from a zero to a one state requires less voltage shift.
