That depends on the size and speed of the projectile, but for a large railgun the sound will be very similar to that of a conventional gun. Not only does the projectile break the sound barrier, producing the same crack as a rifle bullet, but the arc between the rails heats the air enough to make a sizable fireball.Jan 7, 2017
