A true RMS meter works by taking the square of the instantaneous value of the input voltage or current, averaging this value over time, and then displaying the square root of this average. The important thing to remember is that a \u201ctrue RMS\u201d meter will give you better readings.Oct 12, 2012');})();(function(){window.jsl.dh('7','');})();(function(){window.jsl.dh('_1hqhYO6qGY640PEPlvGQqAQ47','
');})();(function(){window.jsl.dh('9','
If every AC signal that you wish to measure the RMS value of is a pure sine wave, then you don't need a true RMS meter. If, however, you want to measure the RMS value of a square wave, the output of a half-wave rectifier or something else more complex, then a true RMS meter will be advantageous.
