How does a soda cold plate work?

Stainless steel cold plates are kept covered with ice and/or circulated with chilled glycol to maintain a constant near-freezing temperature. As the soda, beer or whatever beverage flows through the cold plate's many feet of internal tubing, it is chilled through contact before the drink is dispensed.
