The answer is 8 hours.

However, for am and pm, it gets trickier, because you have to account for the hours past noon, where 5 is not greater than 9, so we can use military time (add twelve) to make 9 am into 9:00 and 5 pm into 17:00. So subtracting now, 17:00 minus 9:00 is equal to 8:00 or 8 hours.Nov 28, 2017
