Is internal or external SSD better?

There is no difference in Hardware. The only worry you should have is your connection to the external SSD which may be slower then the internal one and may not supply the information fast enough. eSATA should be fine, USB 3.0 would be fine, USB 2.0, not so much. ... There was a time when you had internal SATA SSDs only.
