Cherry switches are (mostly) perfectly fine, and people have attested to their durability and feel for decades. If you already know what kind of keyfeel you want, go for whatever switch catches your fancy. Cherry are the gateway switches to the hobby. Cherry MX Reds are relatively quiet, more-so than the tactile and clickys such as the Brown or Blue. They have a 45g actuation force with a 75g bottom out force. The total travel distance on the MX Reds is 4mm with an actuation distance of 2mm which is standard for Cherry MX.
