Oscilloscopes are quite high tech devices. It takes some serious engineering to build a device that has a flat response just from DC to 100MHz, much less higher frequencies. Then the hardware sampling rate must be 5 to 10 times the maximum bandwidth to get a meaningful representation of the waveform.
