Does IR sensor work in sunlight?

Why IR sensor doesn't work in sunlight? ... So they sense the presence of Infrared waves. This means that the IR rays from the transmitter (IR LED) are detected by the reciever (photodiode). Sunlight is itself a composition of a range of waves including the IR waves.
