A key advantage of Power over Ethernet (PoE) is its simplicity. However, the introduction of the “at” amendment to the (PoE+) to the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard increased the power available to powered devices (PDs) to 30 Watts (W) compared with the 15 W of the original specification. For systems employing many ports, the higher capacity of PoE+ requires a large power supply to cope with demand.
