Electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider Benchmark electronics has begun manufacturing at a previously vacant plant in Korat, Thailand following flooding at its manufacturing facility in Ayudhaya, Thailand.
The company, based in Angleton, Texas reported that the Korat plant was restarted in record time. The facility had to be remodeled and manufacturing equipment had to be purchased and installed at the site. Some employees were transferred and some new employees were hired, according to the EMS provider.
Benchmark Electronics provides manufacturing, design and engineering services to original equipment manufacturers of computers, medical devices, and industrial control equipment.
Another EMS provider, Fabrinet, stated that its plant at its Chokchai campus in Pathum Thani, Thailand would remain shut down for the rest of the year because of the flood. Fabrinet earlier had suspended production at another facility north of its Chokchai plant.
Fabrinet makes optical, electrical, and electro-mechanic components and assemblies. It also has facilities in China and the U.S.
