The word "meter" comes from the Latin "metro," which means measurement. The Celsius scale is part of the metric system, but not of SI. ... Celsius is used popularly because it has the same magnitude of degree as kelvin. But I can't figure out from Googling why Celsius was chosen over Fahrenheit.
